How to join

Java Edition

  1. Open Multiplayer and choose Add Server.

Quick start

  1. Join with cat-smp.net (Java) or bedrock.cat-smp.net (Bedrock).
  2. Read the rules so you don't get banned.
  3. Run /afk to start earning shards while you get set up.
  4. Use /rtp to find a spot, then /sethome to save it.
  5. Sell items with /sell, buy gear with /shop, and vote every day.

Server rules

This is a family-friendly server. Anything that is not family-friendly is not allowed.

  • Health indicators
  • Radar
  • Freecam
  • ESP

  • Finding or using the seed

Not allowed: exploits and trading

  • Abusing bugs
  • Duplicating items, or trying to
  • IRL trading
  • Invite rewards
  • External gambling
  • Discord boost rewards
  • Cross-server trading
  • Using more than 5 accounts

Not allowed: behaviour

  • Staff impersonation
  • Spamming voice chat
  • Ban evasion

You should

  • Report all bugs, glitches, and cheaters.
  • Listen to staff.

Chat rules

This is a family-friendly server. Anything that is NOT family-friendly is NOT allowed.

  • No swearing at all, in text chat, Discord VCs, or in-game voice chat
  • No inappropriate words in your Discord status
  • No spamming or getting others to spam
  • No harassing, discrimination, or hate speech
  • No death threats
  • No sharing others' private information
  • No self-promotion or advertising, including in DMs
  • No NSFW content via DMs
  • Keep mentions of other content creators to a bare minimum
  • No low-effort forum posts

PvP rules

PvP is allowed, crystals are not. Naked killing is allowed in the Arena and Moshpit.

Gear and fights

  • Totems: you can carry only 2 for PvP, and new players are limited to 2 as well. If you get jumped while holding more than 2, the limit no longer applies to you.
  • Regear shulkers are allowed if everyone in the fight agrees. They can't contain totems.
  • Enchanted golden apples are allowed.
  • Netherite can be worn and used in fights only at Spawn. Outside Spawn, tell the other player in advance.
  • Agreed rules (for example no mace, no potions, no totems) must be respected.
  • Staff may step in when a fight is unfair, such as cheating or exploits.

Maces

  • You may keep a mace in your Ender Chest when you're not fighting, but you must carry one when you enter a fight.
  • If you own more than one, at least one must be on you in any fight.
  • If you're jumped and quickdropped, a mace left in your Ender Chest stays yours.
  • No storing your mace mid-fight.

Running, camping and looting

  • Running is allowed unless the fight was agreed as fight until death.
  • No elytra macing, elytra running, or bed or respawn camping.
  • Traps count as legitimate kills.
  • Loot only after a legitimate kill. If a bystander steals your loot, you can kill them to get it back, even if they're naked.
  • If you're teleported back after dying, your opponent may kill you again, and the first death's loot is no longer yours.
  • If you lag out during a fight, your items are returned as they were before it, and opponents can't take or keep your loot.
  • Spectators can't drop regear items.
  • Don't argue about fights in public chat. Take it to DMs or open a ticket on Discord.

Gameplay

Economy

Sell items for money with /sell, buy gear in /shop, and trade with other players on the auction house.

Homes, teams and travel

Set homes, make a team with your friends, and use random teleport to find a spot for your base.

Spawn is where Netherite fights are allowed. The Arena and Moshpit are for PvP, and naked killing is allowed in both.

Leaderboards and stats

Shards, deaths, and playtime show on leaderboards and in /stats.

Renaming items

Use Minecraft formatting codes in an anvil to rename items with colors.

Shards and crates

Shards

  • Daily reward: 10 shards every 24 hours

Crates

There are four crates: Common, Diamond, Cat and Tiger. Keys come from events, giveaways, and the store.

  • Common is free and gives lightly enchanted gear.
  • Diamond and Cat hold stronger gear.
  • Tiger is the top crate: netherite gear, 32 enchanted golden apples, and special tools like the sell axe and trench tools.

Useful commands

  • /sethomeSave a home

Saves the spot you're standing on as a home, using the name you give it. Names can be up to 16 characters, and numbers are allowed. How many homes you can have depends on your rank: 3 (Default), 6 (Cat+), 15 (Cat++), or 40 (Cat+++). If you're at your limit, delete one with /delhome first.

    Use: /sethome base or /sethome 1

  • /homeOpen the homes menu

/home opens the homes menu, and /homes opens it too. Click a home in the menu to teleport there. To skip the menu, add the home's name or number. There is a 5 second countdown, and moving cancels the teleport.

    Use: /home or /home 1

  • /delhomeDelete a home

Deletes one of your homes by name. This frees up a slot so you can set a new home.

    Use: /delhome base

  • /rtpRandom teleport

Teleports you to a random safe spot.

    • Run /rtp. If a menu opens, click the world you want. You can teleport in the Overworld, the Nether, or the End.
    • The plugin searches for a safe spot, so you won't land in water.
    • Stand still during the countdown. Moving cancels the teleport.
    • After a teleport you wait for the cooldown before you can use it again.
    • Both the countdown and the cooldown get shorter with higher ranks. Cat+++ has no cooldown and teleports instantly. See the Ranks table.

    Use: /rtp

  • /afkGo to the AFK pool

Takes you to the AFK pool, the water area near spawn, where you earn shards just by staying there.

    • You earn 1 shard per minute while you stand inside the zone. Particles mark the zone.
    • You can also get there with /warp afk, or find it from /spawn.
    • If there is more than one AFK zone, add its name: /afk (zone). Some zones can be limited to certain ranks.
    • Free players only earn shards in the AFK pool, while Cat+ and up earn them anywhere.
    • Bots and macros get an IP ban.

    Use: /afk

  • /shardsSee your shards

Shows how many shards you have. Your shard count also appears on the scoreboard and in /stats. Earn them in the AFK pool, from daily and hourly rewards, and from kills.

    Use: /shards

  • /shardshopSpend shards

Opens the shard shop. Skeleton spawners cost 250 shards there.

    Use: /shardshop

  • /shopBuy items

Opens the shop, where you buy items with in-game money. Spawners are not sold here, since they're in /shardshop.

    1. Run /shop and click a category.
    2. Click the item you want. Use the arrows to move between pages, or Back to return.
    3. On the confirm screen, set how many you want with the red and green buttons (-10, -5, -1, +1, +5, +10). The price is shown on the item.
    4. Click Confirm to buy, or Cancel to go back.

    Use: /shop

  • /sellSell items

Sell items from your inventory for money. Selling is the main way to earn money to spend in /shop.

    Use: /sell

  • /ahAuction house

Opens the auction house. Browse and buy items other players have listed, or list your own to sell. Listings that expire can be collected from the expired items menu, and your past buys are in the purchase history.

    Use: /ah

  • /teamCreate and manage a team

Teams let you and your friends share a team home and a private team chat.

    • /team create (name): make a team. It's free. Names are 3 to 16 letters, numbers or underscores, and inappropriate names are blocked.
    • /team invite (player): invite a player. They have 60 seconds to reply with /team accept or /team deny.
    • /team chat (message): send a message only your team can see.

Hold any item and run the command to wear it on your head. It's cosmetic only and needs Cat+ or higher.

    Use: /hat

  • /tpaAsk to teleport to a player

    Use: /tpa Steve

  • /balanceCheck your money

Shows how much money you have, written with a $. Add a player's name to see theirs. Money is separate from shards.

Earn money by selling items with /sell, trading on the auction house with /ah, and filling orders with /orders. Spend it in /shop, and send it to friends with /pay.

    Use: /balance or /balance Steve

  • /paySend money to a player

Sends money from your balance to another player.

Opens the leaderboards. Open one directly with /topkills, /topdeaths, or /playtimetop. The server also ranks players by shards and money, and those boards show up on spawn displays and scoreboards.

    Use: /leaderboard

More features

CatSMP runs on SMP Core, so these menus are also available. Ask in Discord if you get stuck.

  • BountiesPut a price on a player

You can place bounties, remove your own, and check bounty information. It all happens in the bounty menu.

  • OrdersRequest items from other players

Orders let you ask other players for items you need.

    • /orders opens the orders menu, where you can browse orders and see your own.
    • /orders create opens the order creation menu. Choose the item, how many you want, and the price per item.
    • You need enough money to cover the order, and creating one may cost a small fee.
    • Other players can deliver items to your order. You'll get a notice, and you collect what was delivered from your orders menu.
    • There is a limit on how many orders you can have at once.
  • DuelsFight one-on-one

Duels let you fight another player one-on-one.

    • /duel opens the duel menu, which shows players you can challenge. Click a player's head to challenge them.
    • /duel (player) sends a duel request to a specific player. They have 60 seconds to reply.
    • /duel accept accepts a request, and /duel deny refuses it.
    • When a duel is accepted, you both teleport to the duel area, a short distance apart. Don't move during the teleport countdown.
    • A 5 second countdown runs, then the title says Fight. A timer bar shows how long the duel has left, and the result is announced to the server.

The PvP rules still apply, and you should agree any extra terms before you start.

  • ReportsTell staff about a player

Use the report command to report a player to staff. Include what happened, and open a Discord ticket if you have clips or screenshots.

  • TagsChoose a tag

Tags are labels you can choose to show off. Some tags may be locked to certain ranks or rewards.

Run /settings to open your personal settings menu. Each setting is an on/off toggle you click: Global Chat shows or hides global chat messages, player visibility hides other players from you, and glow turns on the glow effect. Hiding players works in the Overworld, the Nether and the End, and staff with the visibility bypass can't be hidden. Your choices are saved.

The guide menu explains the basics of the server without leaving the game.

  • Magic itemsSpecial tools with extra abilities

Magic items are special tools you get from the shard shop, crates, and events.

    • Trench Pickaxe: breaks blocks in a 3x3 area and comes with Efficiency, Unbreaking and Fortune.
    • Other tools include the trench shovel, the sell axe, and the tree chopper.
    • Some magic items have a timer and expire. Check the item's lore to see how long it lasts.
    • Magic tools can't break unbreakable blocks like bedrock, barriers, end portal frames, or reinforced deepslate.
  • BillfordA new crafting deal every day

Billford offers one special crafting recipe at a time, and it changes every 24 hours.

    • Run /billford to open the menu. It shows today's recipe: the items you need and what you get.
    • Put the required items in the ingredient slots, then click the craft button to get the result.
    • The recipe is picked at random each day. Rarer recipes show up less often, so check back daily.

    • /warp (name) goes straight to a warp, for example /warp afk for the AFK pool.
    • /spawn goes to spawn, where Netherite fights are allowed.
    • Going to a warp has a 5 second countdown, and moving cancels it.
    • Some warps are hidden or limited to certain ranks, so you may not see every one.

Yes. CatSMP is cross-play, so Java and Bedrock players share the same world.

How do I earn shards for free?

Stand in the AFK pool with /afk for 1 shard a minute, collect the daily and hourly rewards, and get 10 shards per kill. Voting also gives shards.
